Hurricane Florence Update

September 17, 2018

Daniel Island was very fortunate and did not experience any significant impacts from Hurricane Florence despite a few tree limbs and debris that are in the process of being removed. The pools and boat landings are open. The trails are in good shape and just need general maintenance. We anticipate that everything should be back to normal by next week. We send our best wishes to our neighboring communities in North Carolina who are dealing with very difficult flooding circumstances in the aftermath.

The POA was happy to report that all City of Charleston and SCE&G public services (water and electric) continued to operate without interruption during the storm. There is presently and will continue to be some minor debris on our roads until the City has had an opportunity to remove. Please remember when placing limbs or bagged yard debris to follow standard/normal City of Charleston placement and pick up requirements. The POA will continue to communicate directly to residents via our website and Facebook page any updated information regarding clean-up activity/debris removal.

It is the POA’s responsibility to clean up common areas and respond to damage and hazards in these areas post storm. Property owners should start/continue to clean up the debris in their yards and in front of their houses. Any downed or damaged City street trees, which are located between the curb and sidewalk, should be reported to the City of Charleston Urban Forestry Division Manager, Clark DeCiantis at DeCiantisF@charleston-sc.gov or call Office: (843) 724-7148 or Mobile: (843) 509-9410.

If your City street trees are not down, but do have broken or hazardous limbs, please know that you as the homeowner can clear these limbs should you feel comfortable doing so. If you do not feel comfortable clearing these limbs, please report them to Clark DiCiantis.

Our POA “report a problem” email address – which is reportaproblem@dicommunity.org worked very efficiently and effectively and we would like to thank all of those who submitted issues through that email address. We encourage anyone who may have identified storm related issues to continue to use this address. If you have already sent the problem in via that email address, please know that we received it and dispatched it to the appropriate contacts for follow up. Please do not resend any previously submitted “report a problems” to us as we do not want to create duplicates. If you need to report an issue regarding POA maintained property, for example, boat landings, pools, trails, parks (other than Governors, Freedom or Etiwan), common areas, or ponds, please us with any information you can send, including address/location of the issue and a photo of the problem.

We’d like to thank everyone for their continued patience as we work to bring Daniel Island back to its pre-storm condition.
