The City of Charleston Department of Parks is responsible for the maintenance of all street trees on Daniel Island. “Street Trees” are located in the right-of-way area between the sidewalk and curb in most locations. Some trees are located in tree wells adjacent to the back of curbs along streets. All of these areas are part of the public right of way and these trees are owned and maintained by the City of Charleston. The Department of Parks Urban Forestry Division routinely performs tree maintenance operations on Daniel Island based on reported tree issues and work orders created to handle the reported issues.
Property owners shall NOT do any pruning without contacting the Department of Parks and discussing the issue directly. The Urban Forestry Division of the Department of Parks will schedule the work or if need be the city may hire a contractor to do the work. The Department of Parks may allow a homeowner to hire their own independent ISA Certified Arborist to do the work if there is an issue with the time frame for completing the work by City crews.
To report a street tree that needs pruning, maintenance, replacement, etc. please call the City of Charleston Urban Forestry Division directly at 843-724-3457 or email us at info@dicommunity.com with questions.
