This week, the city of Charleston Public Service Department was informed that several Republic Services crew members have been quarantined due to exposures to COVID-19. As a result, this week’s garbage collection on Daniel Island has fallen behind schedule.
To offset this staffing shortage and ensure that residents’ garbage is collected, city crews are working this week to augment available Republic crews and complete collection throughout Daniel Island by the end of the day Friday.
The city is planning to meet with Republic in the coming days to assess their status and determine if additional assistance from city crews is needed next week.
As we work through these issues, citizens are asked to report any problems with garbage pickup to the city’s Citizen Services Desk, at 843.724.7311 or citizenservices@charleston-sc.gov.
We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused, and will continue to work closely with Republic until their quarantined employees return to duty.
