Post Storm Update

September 12, 2017

Daniel Island fared well considering the historic storm surge throughout the Low Country from Tropical Storm/Hurricane Irma.  There is significant debris on sidewalks and common areas, but all streets are passable.  The number of downed trees is comparable to Hurricane Matthew.  All infrastructure performed very well.

Over the next several weeks, we will be working with our various contractors and engineers to pick up debris and continue to assess damage throughout the island. There has been significant damage to the City of Charleston Dock (end of River Landing Drive also known as Children’s Park) and the trails behind the Volvo Car Stadium. These areas are closed and the City of Charleston Officials have asked that all residents please stay clear of the areas.

The City of Charleston has a very helpful online reporting tool that goes directly to their various departments that need to respond to the concern. Please use the following link when reporting issues to the City for Irma/storm damage HERE.

If you do not have web access or prefer to report by telephone, their hotline number is 843-973-7219.

It would be very helpful to the POA if you could start cleaning up the debris in your yards and in front of your houses. Any downed City street trees, which are located between the curb and sidewalk, should be reported to the City of Charleston Urban Forestry Division Manager, Danny Burbage at BURBAGED@charleston-sc.gov or (843) 724-7416. If these City street trees are not down but do have broken or hazardous limbs, please know that you as the homeowner can clear these limbs should you feel comfortable doing so. If you do not feel comfortable clearing these limbs, please report them to Danny Burbage.

Regarding trash and yard debris pick up, the City/Republic Services is performing island wide pickup of garbage and yard debris today. Pickup for next Monday should be as usual. Should the City decide to add any additional yard debris pickup, we will notify residents regarding that pickup day/date. Please follow all policies for trash and yard debris collection found HERE.

Our POA “report a problem” new email address – which is reportaproblem@dicommunity.org is working very efficiently and we would like to thank all of those who have submitted issues through that email address thus far and we encourage anyone who may have identified storm related issues to continue to use this address.  If you have already sent the problem in via that email address, please know that we have received it and have dispatched it to the appropriate contacts.  Please do not resend any previously submitted “report a problem” to us as we do not want to create duplicates.
