Traffic Alert – Temporary Street Closure Notice for Daniel Island Annual Patriotic Community Parade on Wednesday, July 3rd: Approx. 5:45 – 6:30 pm

The Daniel Island Community 3rd of July parade route from Etiwan Park on Seven Farms Drive to Smythe Park on Daniel Island Drive will require several intermittent street closures again this year. If you live between the intersections of Daniel Island Drive and Etiwan Park Street on Barfield Street and OR between Seven Farms Drive to Barfield Street on Etiwan Park Street, these sections of streets will temporarily be closed for the Annual Daniel Island Annual Patriotic Community Parade on Wednesday, July 3rd from approximately 5:45 – 6:30 PM.

We wanted you to be aware, so that you can plan access to and from your home accordingly. We are asking all residents along this section of the parade route to refrain from parking their vehicles on the street in front of their home for safety purposes and safe passage of the parade during this time period of 5:45 – 6:30 pm (approx.) on Wednesday, July 3rd. If you would instead park your cars in your driveway or behind your home that would be appreciated. This is a safety precaution request per the City of Charleston Police Department and the City of Charleston Fire Department as they will not be allowing any non-parade vehicular activity to take place on these sections of streets during the street closure. With this closure you will not be able to travel to or from your home along these streets between 5:45 – 6:30 pm (approx.) unless it is of a health/safety emergency situation. Once the “all clear” has been given and the tail police car has made its way through this area at the end of the parade, the street will reopen for vehicular access and street parking once again.

On, Wednesday, July 3rd from approximately 5:45 – 6:30 pm, the Daniel Island Community 3rd of July parade route from Etiwan Park on Seven Farms Drive to Smythe Park on Daniel Island Drive will require several intermittent street closures again this year. These intermittent street closures will take place from approximately 5:45 – 6:30 pm along intersecting streets along the parade route along the southbound lanes of Daniel Island Drive. The northbound lane of Daniel Island Drive will remain open (heading to Seven Farms Drive from Smythe Park) and will not be closed.

Due to the road construction taking place at the roundabout at Seven Farms Drive and Daniel Island Drive, the parade route will shift slightly this year, with a brief detour onto Etiwan Park Street, to Barfield Street and then back onto Daniel Island Drive along the southbound lane of Daniel Island Drive (heading to Smythe Park from Seven Farms Drive).

We invite you to join us in the parade or from the front porch of your home or unit as you will have the perfect vantage point to enjoy the parade and cheer on our parade attendees with your family and neighbors as the parade passes by.

For event logistics, pedestrian and vehicular safety reasons, the City of Charleston Police Department and the City of Charleston Fire Department has requested that we close these sections of streets temporarily for the event from the hours of 5:45 – 6:30 pm approx. on that afternoon/evening.

During that temporary street closure there will be City of Charleston Police located at the intersections of Daniel Island Drive and Barfield Street, at Etiwan Park Street and Barfield Street and at Seven Farms Drive and Etiwan Park Street as well as other traffic management personnel stationed along other intersecting streets. They are there to provide safe passage for our golf carts and other parade goers as well as to provide non parade traffic management.

Center Park Area:

Should residents of the Center Park neighborhood wish to leave their home during the parade , they are asked to drive southeast down Blakeway Street towards Smythe Park and then turn left from Blakeway onto the northbound lane of Daniel Island Drive. The detour route on the map is the suggested route to take Center Park residents who need to leave the island or go to another location on the island away from the parade, using Blakeway Street as the main street to get you back to Daniel Island Drive so that you can exit to the northbound lane of Daniel Island Drive heading towards Seven Farms Drive. The northbound lane of Daniel Island Drive will remain open (heading to Seven Farms Drive from Smythe Park) and will not be closed. The City of Charleston has permitted the parade and the City of Charleston Police Department will be coordinating and executing the street closure process.

The parade route is as follows: Parade starts at 6 PM Sharp

If you are part of the patriotic parade, please enter the Bishop England parking lot at the Bounty Street and Seven Farms Drive entrance.

Leave from Bishop England High School Parking Lot, then right onto Seven Farms Drive, then right onto Etiwan Park Street, then left onto Barfield Street to Daniel Island Drive, then right onto Daniel Island Drive to Smythe Park. The parade will end at the Daniel Island Drive & Purcell Lane intersection. We will be using the Daniel Island School parking lots as well as street parking for all event parking.

We apologize for any inconvenience the temporary street closure may cause you or your family. We appreciate your patience during this time in order for us to have safe passage of our parade participants/residents during this time period.

Important Reminders For Smythe Park After Parade, Concerts and Fireworks: Wednesday, July 3rd

Again this year, we will not be allowing personal tents to be set up in Smythe Park for this event. You are welcome to bring chairs, blankets and tables. We expect a very large turnout which we always have for this event and we would ask that residents not begin setting up until the day of the event which would be anytime on Wednesday, July 3rd. This is the same policy that we have used for several years now. We need every inch of space we have in the park for the attendees and for our vendors and activities. Personal golf carts are not be allowed in the park – those should be parked in the Daniel Island school parking lots or on the streets surrounding Smythe Park.

***Please note that due to city and state fireworks regulations, access to this area where the fireworks will be shot from will not be allowed. During the fireworks show, Smythe Street from Daniel Island Drive to Pierce Street will be closed to vehicular or pedestrian access. This closure should last approximately 1 hour. Once the “all clear” has been given by the fire department officials, this area will once again be opened. Thank you for your understanding regarding this very important safety measure and please plan accordingly.
