Tropical Storm Isaias is predicted to impact our area later today into tomorrow and a tropical storm warning has been issued for the Charleston area.
Please read the latest updates below:
- Due to the incoming storm, all three of the Daniel Island Community Pools (Scott Park, Pierce Park and Edgefield Park) have closed as of 12 PM today Monday, August 3rd. After an inspection by the POA Field Ops team and the pool contractor, the pools will reopen on Tuesday, August 4th at 10 AM.
- We do not foresee any closures of the Ralston Creek or Beresford Creek Boat Landings at this time.
- Garbage and yard debris pickup – (message from the City of Charleston) Due to the anticipated arrival time of Isaias, garbage and yard debris pickup will be delayed by one day. Pick up will NOT occur on Monday, August 3rd. Both garbage and yard debris pickup will take place on Tuesday, August 4th.
- If you have taken your trash bin to the curb, please remove it from the curb and secure it until pick up resumes on Tuesday, August 4th.
- We remind everyone to check around the entire perimeter of your home, unit or business and secure or bring inside any exterior items such as flag poles, sandwich board signs (in the commercial area) trash cans, yard debris or other items placed at the curb, planters (both hanging and potted), yard art, furniture, grills, bird feeders, basketball hoops, sports goals & other play/recreational equipment and any other loose household items that could damage your property or neighboring properties.
While the DIPOA staff is still working remotely due to COVID 19, please email reportaproblem@dicommunity.org for all storm related issues. For example, boat landings, pools, trails, parks (other than Governors, Freedom, Etiwan, and Fallen Oak), common areas, or ponds. Any information you can provide, including address/location of the issue and a photo is appreciated.

As of 2 PM Friday, July 31, 2020, national hurricane model predictions indicate Hurricane Isaias is currently a Category 1 Hurricane and at this time does not have a predicted direct landfall in Charleston.
This means that Daniel Island likely won’t see major impacts, but may experience Tropical Storm conditions (significant rainfall, moderate flooding and high winds).
- Category 1 Hurricanes – According to the South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD), a Category 1 Hurricane poses minimal risk with some damage to roofs, siding, gutters and trees. It can bring heavy rains and winds up to 74–95 MPH. You can find out more information in the 2020 SC Hurricane Guide.
- Know your zone: Daniel Island is in Zone B
- Be vigilant in monitoring the weather conditions closely and be prepared to follow recommendations of state and local authorities as hurricanes are unpredictable. Important contacts and links to recommended media websites to monitor can be found HERE.

- For downed power lines, tree limbs, trees or other large debris that you may encounter in the streets or roads, please call 911 to report them.
- Downed or damaged City street trees, which are located between the curb and sidewalk should be reported to the City of Charleston Work Order Line at 843-724-3457. July 31, 2020 – City of Charleston Prepares for Hurricane Isaias (provided by the City)
Charleston, S.C.– City of Charleston officials continue to monitor Hurricane Isaias and have begun initial preparations for any potential impacts the storm may have here in the Lowcountry. City Emergency Management is working closely with state and regional officials to monitor the storm’s track and coordinate preparation efforts.
The current forecast from the National Weather Service anticipates impacts to Charleston from Hurricane Isaias Sunday night into Monday. At present, there is a potential for tropical storm force winds, coastal flooding with the Sunday evening and Monday’s high tides as well as flooding rainfall.
Due to the possibility of flooding, the city’s Stormwater Department has reserved temporary pumps to position in low lying areas. Crews are proactively cleaning ditches and drains in flood prone areas. Citizens can visit the city’s Adopt-a-drain webpage for information on ways they can help.
The Parks Department has begun lowering the water level in Lake Dotterer and Colonial Lake.
Next week’s garbage and trash collection will be delayed one day, with Monday’s routes being collected on Tuesday, Tuesday’s routes collected on Wednesday and Thursday’s routes on Friday.
The city’s “Operation Move-out” initiative will be suspended Saturday, August 1. All trash items must be placed on the curb by 7 a.m. Saturday for collection.
Citizens are encouraged to begin making preparations now. The city’s Hurricane Information webpage can be accessed at https://www.charleston-sc.gov/Hurricane-Information. Updates on Hurricane Isaias will be released and posted to the webpage as new information becomes available.
“While it is still too early to know exactly what the impacts of Hurricane Isaias will be on the city, the time for citizens to prepare is now,” said City of Charleston Emergency Management Director Shannon Scaff. “Make sure your family has a plan and emergency supplies in place, and continue to monitor local media for the latest information about the storm.”
For the most accurate and up-to-date weather forecasts, residents should stay tuned to the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service Charleston websites, as well as local media and the FEMA app. Additional hurricane preparedness information can be found at www.scemd.org.
