Get Winter Weather Ready

Even though there are currently no winter storm threats for the Lowcountry, evening temperatures are continuing to drop, with predictions being in the low 20s to 30s over the next week. Now is a great time to get winter weather ready! Below are some useful tips and links to use to get your home ready for the colder temps.

Protect the 4 Ps: With temperatures dipping, it is important to know how to protect your Pipes, Plants, Pets, and People.

  • Residents should take precautions to protect people (friends, family, elderly neighbors, and themselves).
    • Make sure children have dressed appropriately for cold weather.
    • Have safe heating equipment available inside, check smoke detectors, winterize windows and doors with caulking and weather stripping, and make sure you have adequate shelter and warmth, food, and water.

Water Leaks or Plumbing Breaks for residents: If you discover a leak, turn off the water supply to your home at the main shut-off valve and contact a plumber. POA staff is not responsibly assessing damage on private property. Be sure all irrigation systems are drained and shut off prior to the inclement weather or you may find yourself with thousands of dollars in repair bills.

Electric: If you experience a power outage, please call Dominion Energy at 800-251-7234 or report an outage online HERE.

Possible icicles form under the 526 bridge or overhead on buildings or other overpasses, exercise caution when out and about. – protocols of who to contact regarding this, SCDOT, and police and fire department and inform residents for safety.

News: It is recommended that residents keep an eye on local news channels for the latest up-to-date information on the weather and weather predictions.
