Upcoming Daniel Island Events Update

April 08, 2020

During this stressful, difficult time, it is hard to find our bearings. Both work and play are challenges for us all. The Daniel Island community has many beloved and treasured annual events that have become traditions for so many of our families. Unfortunately, due to the health and safety risks of Covid-19, we have made the decision to cancel the May 9, 2020 Concert in the Park at Smythe Park.

As many know, 100% of the funding for the events the Daniel Island POA produces is from the Daniel Island Community Fund, not from annual assessments. For the past 15 years, the POA has been so fortunate to be able to bring high quality, amazing, free cultural events to our property owners because of the Daniel Island Community Fund. The Fund not only supports our cultural events, it also does great work supporting those in need in our community through grant making to nonprofits providing services on Daniel Island, Cainhoy, Wando and Huger. All of our grant recipients can be found on our POA website’s philanthropy page at dicommunity.wpengine.com. The Community Fund also supports local park improvement projects, like the beautiful new Daniel Island Waterfront Park that is currently being constructed on the Wando River.

The projected Daniel Island Community Fund income that goes toward our events and our nonprofit grants may also be impacted this year due to the Covid-19 virus. While there is no way to project exactly the extent of the economic impact, we will be working with our DICF resident advisory board to make adjustments to our 2020 budget in preparation for a tough year, but with hope for a better year.

While the dedicated POA event staff are working hard and creatively to “re-purpose” how we can enjoy cultural experiences collectively, please be prepared for potential future event and programming cancellations and postponements. We all look forward to getting past this unprecedented pandemic, and being able to once again host the community events that so many have come to love. Please stay safe and stay home for your sake and your neighbor’s.

Other event cancellations/modifications:

  • June 6 – Annual Duck Race and Sounds of Summer Concert – POSTPONED
  • June 13 – City of Charleston Kids Triathlon – CANCELLED

Stay tuned for alternative, fun events that are being created!
