The Results Are In! 2022 Young Philanthropist Contest

September 06, 2022

What a summer! Through the 2022 Young Philanthropists Contest, our Daniel Island Youth raised a total of $3,143 for three local deserving nonprofits – the Callen Lacey Center for Children, Families Helping Families, and the Berkeley County Animal Center! Thank you to all of the kids that entered the contest and helped contribute to the funds raised. The top 3 contest winners are as follows:

1st Place – The Ralston Grove Kids

A group of Ralston Grove Kids, ages 2-5, pulled together to raise funds for the Callen Lacey Center for Children and signed up houses in their neighborhood to get “flamingoed”. They then placed flamingo lawn ornaments in the yards of the houses that signed up and collected donations for the removal of the flamingoes.

2nd Place – Brian Clark and Griffin Castiglia

A few months ago Brian and Griffin were using their imagination on a dreary, Sunday afternoon. They started planning a carnival with household games, snacks, and poster board. They chose to give back to the community by entering the Philanthropist contest with their carnival ideas. The boys mapped out the entire carnival, created the games, and even hired their own security.

They teamed up with their friends and chose the charity “families helping families.” They chose this charity because they wanted to help families through difficult times. Brian said, “it feels good,” to give back to the community. Together they raised over $1,000 and they cannot wait to do it again!

3rd Place – Luka Simic

Luka Simic served up some iced cold lemonade to his community to raise money for the Berkeley County Animal Center. He came up with the idea to serve lemonade because “lemonade is so refreshing and it’s also an opportunity to hang out with my friends.”

He chose to help animals because “they are super cute and active and he loves them” and also added, “I don’t have a pet but I would love to have a pet.”
