Daniel Island is Turning Teal in September to promote Ovarian Cancer Awareness. Every year in the U.S. 22,000 new cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed and 14,000 women will die from the disease. There is NO early detection test for ovarian cancer which makes awareness and knowledge of the symptoms of utmost importance.
You can participate in this national awareness campaign to “Turn The Towns Teal” by hanging a teal ribbon cancer swag on your door in honor of or in memory of a relative or friend who has coped with ovarian cancer. The Low Country Chapter of the South Carolina Ovarian Cancer Foundation (SCOCF) is a partner in the Turn The Town Teal campaign and is placing ribbons, posters and symptom cards in various sites on Daniel Island. We thank the local vendors for their participation and encourage you to support them.
Over a ten year period about 70% of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer will not survive. This is because most women are not diagnosed until an advanced stage; ovarian cancer is often called the “silent killer”.
SCOCF advises “Until there’s a test, awareness is best”. Look for the teal swag and pick up a symptom/risk card at the DIPOA office or a participating store or office.
