DI Wastewater Treatment Plant Notice

July 18, 2022

The following information was provided to the Daniel Island POA office by the Charleston Water System.

The Charleston Water System has scheduled work on Daniel Island that will affect streets in both the Community and Park Associations.

Daniel Island Community Association (DICA):

The Charleston Water System anticipates working on its system at the Daniel Island Wastewater Treatment Plant from Wednesday, July 20th through Monday, August 1st, 2022.

The work will entail the cleaning of the Daniel Island Tunnel shaft on Charleston Water Systems property to remove sediment and floatable material, such as wipes and fats, oil, and grease. Since the work will require the tunnel shaft top to be removed, some odors may be observed during the construction period. All efforts, including the continued operation of their odor control system and daily removal of debris, will be taken to minimize odors during the cleaning operation.

The cleaning operation will also result in additional truck traffic, including the transport of cranes and roll-offs, between Daniel Island Drive and the facility off of Pierce Street at 196 Republic Drive.

They need your help!

They do not anticipate any disruption of traffic, however, they request that residents please refrain from parking any vehicles on Pierce Street between Daniel Island Drive and the facility during the construction period (July 20 – August 1.)

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact them at 843-727-6800 or e-mail info@charlestoncpw.com.

Daniel Island Park Association (DIPA):

The area shown in the below map will experience a temporary water outage Tuesday, July 26 from 8:30 PM to 1 PM. If there’s a weather delay, expect the outage Wednesday, July 27 from 8:30 AM to 1 PM.
