Who To Call – POA or City Police?

March 06, 2022

While the POA is happy to assist with any issue that residents have, oftentimes it is faster and more efficient to contact the City of Charleston Police Department directly for certain concerns. We have listed some examples below of frequent calls/concerns that are best responded to by the City of Charleston Police Department by calling their non-emergency line (843) 743-7200.

Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Questionable parking violations – cars parked on the wrong side of the street, facing the wrong way, blocking a driveway/mailbox, broken down vehicles, parking for an extended period of time, etc.
  • Solicitation
  • Suspicious situations
  • Pet owner responsibilities – pets off-leash, owner not picking up pet waste, excessive barking, etc.
  • Property damage/theft – consists of any personal property such as cars, mailboxes, homes, bikes, etc.
  • Noise – loud and unnecessary noises or amplified sounds after 11 PM and before 7 AM

If you are ever unsure if your situation warrants a call to the non-emergency police dispatcher, please feel free to call the POA office at (843) 971-9200 and we would be more than happy to help you.
