Veterans Day – Thursday, November 11th, 2021

November 07, 2021

As you admire the patriotic banners and American flags around the island, remember to thank our veterans who we celebrate on Veterans Day. Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day, we stand united in respect for you, our veterans.

This holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country’s service and was originally called Armistice Day. It fell on November 11th because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to “Veterans Day” in order to account for all veterans in all wars.

We celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

Donation Opportunity

If you are interested in making a donation to a veterans organization, the Daniel Island Community Foundation and its resident advisory committee are currently fundraising for Soldier’s Angels through their matching campaign. Soldiers’ Angels provides aid and comfort to the men and women of the United States Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, their families, and a growing veteran population.

At the end of the year, all donations to Soldier’s Angels via our donation platform (Donate2It) will be matched up to $5,000 by the Daniel Island Community Fund.

Find out more information about the matching campaign and how to donate HERE.

Food Drive For Veterans

Support our military heroes by donating canned goods (meats, fruits, vegetables, beans) which will be delivered to our military heroes living at Patriot Villas, an apartment complex in North Charleston for previously homeless Veterans.

From November 1 – 30, containers for food collection will be located on the front and back porches of the Providence Sanctuary, 294 Seven Farms Drive. Stop by anytime to deliver your contributions.
