The Daniel Island Community Foundation is kicking off the season of renewal with a goal to collect over 200 lbs. of nonperishable food and hygiene products for local nonprofit organizations during its Spring Drive, taking place Monday, April 28 through Thursday, May 15.
Food insecurity and inadequate access to essential hygiene products remain ongoing and growing issues across South Carolina and beyond. According to Feeding America, in 2024, 678,710 South Carolinians are facing hunger, including 197,310 children. These numbers highlight the importance of community-driven efforts to provide support and relief.
Often, families struggling with food insecurity must make impossible choices—skipping meals, reducing portions, or foregoing hygiene necessities just to make ends meet. Even unexpected expenses like medical bills or car repairs can push a household into crisis. Many of these families either don’t qualify for food assistance or avoid seeking help due to stigma.
That’s where we come in – by coming together as a community this spring, we can help bridge the gap for those in need.
We’re asking residents to donate nonperishable food items, toiletries, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies during this drive. Donations will be accepted at the POA Office (130 River Landing Drive, Suite 1C), Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to 4 PM, from April 28 to May 15.
All collected items will benefit three impactful local organizations:
- Lowcountry Food Bank
- East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO)
- Lowcountry Blessing Boxes
These nonprofits are dedicated to fighting hunger and promoting dignity in our local community. Your contributions will help them reach more families, children, and individuals in need.
Let’s spring into action and make a difference together!
