Below are just a few suggestions of ways in which we can assist each other during this time:
- Communicate With Your Neighbors – in particular with your older neighbors or perhaps those neighbors with children who might need that call or text of encouragement to check in on them.
- Reach out to see if they need something while you are out running an essential errand. This will help lessen the frequency and numbers of people out and about by offering to pick something up for them. This could include picking up (essential items) – groceries, food, medicines, etc.
- If cabin fever is setting in, talk with your children and think outside the box as to how they can safely be good and helpful neighbors particularly to the older population or a neighbor in need.
- Yard Work (Mow lawns and weed) – while you are mowing your own lawn, ask your neighbor if you can help them with their lawn maintenance, if they are unable to perform theirs at that time.
- If you are making a trip to a nearby convenience center to drop off yard debris or other household items, offer to take your neighbors items as well if you can.
- If a neighbor is unable to take their garbage can to the curb and remove it on pickup day, offer to do it for them.
- Offer to wash a neighbor’s car if you are already washing yours. This is also a great activity to get the kids out of the house and help a neighbor at the same time.
- Perform minor home exterior repairs for them, if they are unable to at that time.
During these unprecedented times, we know that what makes Daniel Island special is that we can and will come together as a community to care for our families and neighbors – even the neighbors we haven’t met.
