Only Rain Down The Drain

May 14, 2021

As yard debris decomposes, nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus are released into the water. This causes algae blooms, which are unsightly and can kill fish. Preventing grass clippings and landscape debris from entering the storm drains is an important step to keeping our ponds healthy. Remember, only rain down the drain!

The DIPOA has worked with Clemson extension and taken the Master Pond Manager course to improve all of DI’s 40+ ponds. We’ve increased the amounts of beneficial fish in our ponds, created 3-4’ vegetative buffer zones around ponds to slow or stop contamination, and installed aquatic plant shelves to improve existing pond conditions. All are done to ensure cleaner water into our waterways.
