*This message was sent to the Daniel Island POA office by Katie McKain, Director of Sustainability at the City of Charleston.
Beginning January 1, 2020, operations throughout Charleston city limits will be required to eliminate the use of single-use plastic carryout and merchandise bags, as well as certain plastic carryout and food packaging items, such as foam containers, plastic straws and stirrers, and any other disposable food service ware that is not recyclable or compostable.
The ordinance applies to all establishments in City limits, including Daniel Island and Cainhoy, and was passed by the City Council in November 2018.
The flyer below visually explains the ordinance and alternatives available. More information can be found online HERE, including resources for businesses, organizations and residents to help support a smooth transition.
If you have any questions, please call Katie at (843) 724-3789.
