The Daniel Island Property Owners’ Association (POA) office will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. The office will reopen and resume regular business hours on Monday, July 6.
As Independence Day approaches, the Charleston Fire Department reminds all residents that fireworks are prohibited within the City of Charleston under City Ordinance Sec. 13-191. The sale, possession, and discharge of fireworks are illegal. Sparklers, snap-pops, and similar novelty items are not regulated as fireworks and are permitted; however, they should always be used with caution and under adult supervision.
This ordinance applies to all Daniel Island residents, as Daniel Island is located within the City of Charleston.
Reporting Illegal Fireworks
- Call 911 to report the use of illegal fireworks or any emergency involving fireworks, including fires or injuries.
- For fireworks complaints that do not pose an immediate threat to life or property, contact the Charleston County Dispatch Center non-emergency line at 843-743-7200.
- The Charleston Police Department may respond to complaints, confiscate illegal fireworks, and issue citations.
Fireworks Safety Tips
If you attend a permitted public fireworks display or use sparklers, please remember:
- Use sparklers only under close adult supervision.
- Hold sparklers at arm’s length, remain at least six feet from others, and dispose of them properly after use.
- Never hold or light more than one sparkler at a time.
- Always wear closed-toe shoes.
- Never allow young children to handle fireworks.
- Never throw or launch fireworks toward another person, home, or structure.
- Be aware that dry grass, brush, and other combustible materials can ignite easily.
The Charleston Fire Department and the Daniel Island POA wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Independence Day holiday.
