A Message From The Daniel Island Club

May 23, 2019

On Thursday May 23rd, we will begin treating our greens with a fumigant called Basamid. Basmid is applied as a granular product which converts to a gas when water is applied. Widely used for many agrigultural purposes as well as on golf course greens, it eliminates destructive insects, worms and weeds by sterilizing the soil.

Following application and during the subsequent 14-day period, our greens will be covered with tarps in order to contain the Basamid gas within the green. Around each treated area will be a clearly-marked 25’ “buffer zone.” The contractor will begin on Ralston Creek, holes #1 through #18, and the putting green will be done after the first wave of tee times have teed off. The main driving range will be closed when treating the Ralston Creek practice green. The back of the range will be available during that time. The main range will reopen once the treatment is completed and the tarp is secured in place. The process will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes per green.

Buffer zones are intended to provide an extra band of safety around a fumigant application area. By respecting the buffer zone limits during and after a fumigant application, potential exposure to the fumigant is minimized. Odors outside the buffer zone should also be minimal, but if encountered, please call me at 843-971-1745.

As we previously communicated, the next couple of weeks will be a period of high activity on our golf courses with trucks, tractors, irrigators and pesticide applicators. Safety is our #1 priority and during the upcoming project, it is particularly important to remain completely off of the golf course, respect all buffer zones and posted signs and require the same of your children and pets. With everyone’s cooperation, we are confident that we will have a golf course that we can all be proud of again soon.
