2021 Spring Red Balloon Yard Sale Rescheduled for May 22, 2021

March 15, 2021

While we have established a “reschedule date of Saturday, May 22nd, our protocol on this and other events during the COVID 19 pandemic is still in place. Should we find the need to cancel as we draw closer to the May 22nd date due to increased health and safety concerns, we would again do so. Our hope is that due to several current factors such as lower reported cases, lower positivity rate numbers and of course vaccinations now being given, that we will be able to host the event on May 22nd.  We will inform the community of any changes via our Newsletter and Facebook page.

The Daniel Island CC&R’s (governing documents) prohibit independent or individual yard sales conducted from a residence/unit at other times during the year, however the Covenants do allow for the DIPOA coordinated and advertised Red Balloon yard sales to take place twice a year, once in the Fall and again in the Spring. Please remember that set up for your yard sale must take place in either the front or rear of your property. We encourage all yard sale participants to use best practices when it comes to mask wearing, sanitization of items and social distancing for the health and safety of everyone involved. Set up or selling is not allowed in any DIPOA common areas, parks or amenities or those belonging to the City of Charleston.

On Saturday, May 22nd from 7 AM to 1 PM, put out a red balloon at your home to let everyone know you are participating in this island wide event.  If you would like for your address to be added to our Daniel Island Spring 2021 Red Balloon Yard Sale Map, please email us at info@dicommunity.org, no later than Wednesday, May 19th. Please include in the Subject line of the email “2021 DI Spring Red Balloon Yard Sale Map” and then in the body of the email please provide your address as well as your cell number in case we need to get back with you for any reason. We will then include that address you give to us on our participating homes map. This is a “complimentary” service being offered to anyone who wishes to list their address on the yard sale map. This is only for homes located on Daniel Island.

If you need us to remove your address from the map should you find that you are unable to participate, please just email info@dicommunity.org to let us know and your address will be taken off of the map prior to the event. Promotion of this map will be featured in our POA newsletter and in the Post and Courier the week of the yard sale. The DIPOA office will not be handing out red balloons in our office this year due to our current DIPOA COVID office schedule and policy, however you can purchase them from your favorite local retail stores or online.

For those of you who are participating in the yard sale and would like to donate your unsold items to Palmetto Goodwill, they will have a truck located underneath the 526 bridge, adjacent to the LTP/Volvo facility at 161 Seven Farms Drive to collect donated items from 11 AM to 3 PM.  Depending on the quantity of donations, Goodwill may not be able to accommodate everyone due to truck space and timing constraints but will try to accommodate to the best of their ability, as many donation drop-offs as possible. Donation collection is on a first drop off basis. They will make every attempt to run an additional pick up within the 11 AM – 3 pm timeframe if possible. Click HERE for acceptable donation items.

In the event you have two (2) pieces of larger furniture items or more, it is always recommended to set up a home pickup with Goodwill directly by requesting a pickup online. Click HERE or you can contact the Donated Goods Coordinator Bobbi Dragone at 843-300-8975 or bdragone@palmettogoodwill.org. PLEASE NOTE: New safety protocols have been implemented for in-home pickups due to COVID – All items must either be outside or in the garage with easy access. Please feel free to contact the Donated Goods Coordinator Bobbi Dragone at 843-300-8975 or at bdragone@palmettogoodwill.org with any questions.
