The Charleston Police Department is aware of several issues that arose during Monday’s rush hour traffic and the road closures related to the Volvo Car Open. Adjustments to the traffic flow are being made for the remainder of this week to try to limit the back-ups being faced by Daniel Island residents and guests. The prohibition on left turns from Island Park Drive onto River Landing Drive remains in place to try to keep Seven Farms Drive traffic from backing up. To assist residents on the south side of the island with getting to their homes as efficiently as possible, the following routes are being offered.
Daniel Island residents arriving via Daniel Island Drive or eastbound I-526 (from North Charleston) can follow their normal traffic patterns.
Daniel Island residents arriving via westbound I-526 (from Mount Pleasant) should take the following route:
- From the exit 24 off-ramp, turn right onto Island Park Drive
- Turn right onto Fairchild Street (between Refuel and Central Island Square)
- At the traffic signal at Fairchild Street and River Landing Drive, turn left onto River Landing Drive, or continue straight to Daniel Island Drive
Residents should still expect to encounter congestion; however, additional police officers are being assigned to strategic intersections to manage the flow of traffic during the afternoon rush hour. The police department appreciates everyone’s patience, and additional adjustments will be made as necessary to keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible.
