The Charleston Police Department would like to remind all residents of Daniel Island that the City of Charleston parks on Daniel Island remain closed until further notice. The Daniel Island Property Owners Association has also closed all common areas, parks, trails, playgrounds, and boat landings that are owned and maintained by their organization. Residents should know that the DIPOA has granted authority and jurisdiction to the Charleston Police Department to conduct frequent checks on all DIPOA property and to disperse anyone located on these premises. This closure also includes the dock and pier on Daniel Island at Children’s Park at the end of River Landing Drive including the beach access areas at this location.
Anyone who is found on any of these closed properties will be dispersed and is also subject to potential criminal prosecution under Section 21-85 of the City of Charleston Code of Laws which states that “no person shall willfully enter upon the lands or premises of another, public or private, without the consent of the owner or person in charge, or after having been forbidden to do so or after such land or premises has been posted by the owner, occupant or any other authorized person with a conspicuous notice forbidding trespassing.” The city ordinance further states that “no person shall neglect or refuse to depart from the property of another, public or private, when ordered to do so by the owner, occupant or any other person with authority to order such departure.” Officers will continue to patrol all of these locations throughout the duration of this event.
If residents happen to see anyone who is in violation, they are encouraged to call the non-emergency dispatch line and report the infraction at (843) 743-7200. The Charleston Police Department continues to appreciate the public’s support and understanding during this time.
