The Daniel Island Historical Society is thrilled to welcome back previous guest speaker Dr. David Dangerfield, a native of Berkeley County who currently serves as Assistant Professor of History at the University of South Carolina – Salkehatchie. This special program will explore a fascinating group of Lowcountry families who negotiated their ambiguous racial statuses and citizenship by serving in the Confederate military.
Dr. Dangerfield holds a Ph.D. in history from USC, an M.A. in history from the College of Charleston/The Citadel, and a B.A. in history from Erskine College. He is a native of the Lowcountry and has been a member of the USC-Salkehatchie faculty since 2015. His research interests include free persons of color and non-elite whites in the antebellum South and South Carolina history. This event is FREE. All are welcome.
