DESCRIPTION:Join the Travis Manion Foundation on September 12th at 8:00 AM in front of the City of Charleston Fire Station on Daniel Island for the 15th Annual 9/11 Heroes Run. \nThe 9/11 Heroes Run unites communities internationally to never forget the sacrifices of the heroes of September 11th and the wars since\, veterans\, first responders\, civilians\, and the military. \nThe run will impact traffic on Saturday\, September 12\, 2026. \nThe route is as follows: \n\nWest on Seven Farms Drive to the traffic circle at Daniel Island Drive\nSouth (left) on Daniel Island Drive past the library\, Daniel Island School\, and Smythe Park to Wando Landing Drive\nEast (left) on Wando Landing Drive to Pierce Street\nNorth (left) on Pierce Street to Barfield Street\nNorth (right) on Barfield Street to Daniel Island Drive\nNorth (right) on Daniel Island Drive to the traffic circle at Seven Farms Drive\nEast (right) on Seven Farms Drive to the Start / Finish line\n\n  \nOther Event Details: \n\nSeven Farms from River Landing to Pier View will be closed from 5 a.m. for setup and will remain closed until the race has concluded.\nFor the course\, roads will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. or sooner. The race coordinators are using a rolling closure for the roads\, which means they will open as the last runner passes.\nAs in past years\, it is suggested that residents plan ahead\, and if they know they are going to need to leave the island during the race\, they park their car on a street that is not impacted by the closure.\n\nREGISTER HERE

DESCRIPTION:Come and volunteer for the 37th Annual Beach/River Sweep Family Event and help keep our beautiful Daniel Island looking great and healthy. Students earn Service Hours! We’ll sweep at low tide: 8:00 am to 10:00 am (PLEASE NOTE NEW TIME TO REFLECT TIDES)\, Rain or Shine\, Saturday\, September 19th. \nLook for the small registration table set up on the stage in DI Waterfront Park to register. You will receive an S.C. Sea Grant Tally sheet to keep track of the litter you pick up and a recyclable garbage bag. Team up with a buddy so one can pick up the litter and the other can keep score of the litter found. It’s pure fun (like a scavenger hunt) to clean up the island with your friends and family. Or\, just come out for a walk and enjoy the outdoors! Bring your buddies! \n\nAll are welcome. No advance registration required; just show up.\nChildren must be accompanied by an adult.\nTeens will be paired with others unless they come with a buddy of their own.  Participation counts for SERVICE HOURS (bring your volunteer forms or use ours)\nBring water to keep hydrated.\nWear closed-toe shoes\, long sleeves\, sunscreen\, and bug spray.\nBring a grabber to reach for litter from a safe place. We will supply grabbers if you don’t have any.\nThe marshes contain a lot of litter\, which the high tide brings in and the low tide reveals. Only adults can reach in there\, provided they wear rubber boots or marsh boots and have a buddy.\n\nThis event is sponsored by the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium and the DI Community Fund. Prepare to have fun!

SUMMARY:DI Speaker's Series with Vicky Wood
DESCRIPTION:The Daniel Island Community Speaker’s Series will resume on Wednesday evening\, September 23rd\, from 7:00-8:00 PM in the ballroom at the Daniel Island Club. The speaker will be Dr. Vicky Wood\, President of Trident Technical College. \nTrident Tech provides an alternative for many high school grads to the traditional four-year college degree. A four-year college degree is great but not for everybody. Many high school grads have no idea what they want to do. Why not go to a school like TTC for the first two years and then transfer to the four-year college of your choice? You get the same diploma that you would have gotten and accumulate a lot less debt. Or maybe college is not the right path for you at all. TTC offers 83 programs\, many of which are for high-demand\, good-paying careers. Things like fiber optics\, bridge and highway construction\, EMT’s\, nursing\, the culinary arts\, PC Support\, network management\, programming languages\, forensic investigators\, cybersecurity\, transportation security\, and aeronautics. One hundred percent of its graduates have jobs waiting for them. For parents with teenage kids\, it is an alternative worth considering. \nAs the first person to graduate from college\, her story resonates with many of TTC’s students and employees. After high school\, she attended Marion Technical College\, where she earned her associate degree. She continued her education\, eventually earning a doctorate in higher education leadership and working her way up to chief academic officer and provost. She says that\, “My community college experience fostered my passion for helping others change their lives through higher education\, which has been my lifelong career.” \nOn the evening of the event\, there will be a cash bar and passed hors d’oeuvres between 6:30-7:00 PM.
