What Is LCE?

September 27, 2019

You may have seen “LCE” mentioned in the past, and many don’t know what it stands for.

LCE, or Lowcountry Explorers, is one of the oldest running social groups on Daniel Island. They have a Steering Committee made up of 9 DI residents who plan 8 excursions annually. These excursions are planned to take place in the months of January – June, October and November. Each trip includes a tour of an interesting venue and a group luncheon.

The tours are not your typical tourist attraction – the Lowcountry Explorers usually get “behind the scene” or docent-led tours that are not available to the general public. The luncheon allows attendees the opportunity to socialize, catch up with friends, and meet new people. In the past, LCE has taken trips to The Charleston Harbor Pilot center, Brookgreen Gardens “Night of a Thousand Candles”, the Cape Romain Lighthouse, and the Boeing training center. After the tours, they then had lunch at places like Rue De Jean, Minero, The Mills House, and Henry’s.

The trips are posted online in the POA Calendar of Events/Activities and are advertised in the POA Newsletter. Residents can register for trips via Active, the POA’s registration website.

Lowcountry Explorers also just created their very own Facebook Page (Lowcountry Explorers). All trips, photos, and more details can be found on this page. Be sure to “like” them to get all the latest trip information.

Those of you that have explored with LCE know what fabulous trips are arranged. Those of you who are new, join in and see what it’s all about! New trips will be announced soon, so stay tuned.
