City Crews to Collect Garbage, Trash on Daniel Island Friday

July 11, 2019

The following message was sent to the Daniel Island POA office at 6:00 pm on Thursday, July 11 from the City of Charleston.

For Release: July 11, 2019

Charleston, S.C.— On Monday, a truck operated by Republic Services, the contractor that provides garbage and trash collection on Daniel Island, broke down and could not complete its collection route. Republic Services sent another truck out on Tuesday, but did not complete collection of the entire service area.

It was the city’s understanding that Republic Services would be finishing collection today, but according to numerous citizen reports, that apparently did not happen.

Therefore, city of Charleston crews and trucks will complete the garbage and trash collection on Daniel Island tomorrow, Friday, July 12.

Public Service Director Tom O’Brien said, “The city has scheduled an emergency meeting with Republic to better understand this situation. In the meantime, city crews will be completing these routes tomorrow, and we apologize to our citizens for this inconvenience”
