The 9/11 Heroes Run – 5K will be held in front of the Charleston Fire & Police Department located at 235 Seven Farms Drive, as well as the surrounding areas, including Simmons Park. The event will take place on Saturday, September 13th. Opening Ceremonies will begin at 8:00 AM, and the Race will start at 8:30 AM.
During the event, traffic will be temporarily impacted. Please see below for specific information regarding street closures, etc.
Seven Farms Drive between the intersections of River Landing Dr. and Pier View St. will be closed from 5:00 AM until 10:30 AM, or sooner.
Other streets involved with the race route will be closed at approximately 8:25 AM and reopen as soon as the last participant clears that part of the course, not to last longer than 10:30 AM.
These streets include Seven Farms Dr. from River Landing Drive to Daniel Island Drive, portions of Daniel Island Dr. from the traffic circle to Wando Landing St., Wando Landing St. from Daniel Island Dr to Pierce St, Pierce St. from Wando Landing to Barfield, and Barfield from Pierce to Daniel Island Dr. (please see the race map below).
As in past years, it is suggested that residents plan ahead, and if they know they are going to need to leave the island during the race, they park their car on a street that is not impacted by the closure.
For the safety of the race participants, race coordinators ask that residents and businesses along the race route please move their cars the night before the race for safe passage.
