NEW Daniel Island School Do Gooders Club

October 29, 2019

Introducing DIS Do Gooders, a new parent-led service club for seventh and eighth-grade students at Daniel Island School! Meetings of the Do Gooders take place on early release Wednesdays throughout the school year. All projects will be completed on Daniel Island either at the school or within walking and biking distance from the school.

The first project of the Do Gooders is scheduled for October 30th. At this project, DIS student volunteers will partner with preschoolers at Holy Cross Island School for reading, crafts, play, and helping the teachers with assorted projects at the school.

In November and December 2019, the Do Gooders will be out and about in the community working to spread goodwill both near and far! Don’t be alarmed when you see groups of teenagers coming to your door as they will be sharing information about their projects with the Daniel Island community and possibly asking for your help.

The leaders of the DIS Do Gooders hope to instill a service mindedness in middle school students while helping them to also find a productive and fun use of their time on early release Wednesdays. Their goal is to benefit the greater community through the efforts of the students while also building a community of young, local philanthropists.

The parent volunteers are also working to secure free lunches for the student volunteers through local sponsorships. Blondies Bagels and Cafe was October’s lunch sponsor. The Do Gooders are looking for other local businesses to help support this effort by helping to feed the kids on their project days.

For more information about the DIS Do Gooders, please visit their Facebook page, DIS Do Gooders. Links to sign up to help, donate, or participate will be pushed out via this page as the projects are planned. Volunteer spaces will be limited. Students must use the sign-up forms to participate and parents will be required to complete a permission form
