A Decade of Honor: The Field of Honor on Daniel Island

May 22, 2025

This year marks the 10th annual Field of Honor (FOH) on Daniel Island—a patriotic tradition that began in 2016 with just 250 American flags. Over the past decade, this stirring display has grown steadily, becoming a cherished and moving tribute to those who serve and sacrifice. In 2023, the field reached an amazing 1,000 flags dedicated, lining the entire median on River Landing Drive, and transforming the picturesque oak-lined street of Daniel Island into a powerful visual of remembrance and gratitude.

This year, organizers are once again preparing for 1,000+ flags, with the hope that each one of them will carry the name of a personal hero. To date, 950 flags have already been dedicated.

The creation of this field is a community-wide effort led by the Exchange Club of Daniel Island. Dozens of volunteers come together to create the display, braving summer heat and long hours. The Exchange Club of Daniel Island is joined by Scout Troop 519, Jr. AFROTC cadets from Philip Simmons High School, local sponsors, generous benefactors, and even active duty service members from Joint Base Charleston. Their dedication ensures the field not only honors heroes but inspires everyone who sees it.

There is still time to dedicate a flag! You may do so online at HealingField.org or the Exchange Club of Daniel Island’s website. While dedications are accepted up until July 4th, the organizers encourage early participation by June 14, when the field is first raised.

The Exchange Club would like to thank their many sponsors and the sale of flags, which enabled them to give over $40,000 in 2024 to local veteran support benefactors: One80 Place, Fisher House of Charleston, and Tricounty Veterans Support Network.

Every flag tells the story of someone’s hero. We hope you visit the 10th Annual Field of Honor as it takes shape.
