Schools
The three educational institutions located on Daniel Island combine great facilities and teachers with tremendous involvement from parents and the community. These schools greatly benefit from being integral and important components of this community and collectively offer educational opportunities for children of all ages.
This Early Child Learning Center serves ages 1-4 and is one of just a few of its kind in the Charleston area accredited by the National Association of Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the gold standard for early child education.
The island’s public elementary and middle school (K-8th grade) opened in 2006 and is within walking and/or biking distance to all island neighborhoods. The two-story facility incorporates the latest technology in each of its 76 classrooms. The school accommodates 1,200 students.
One of the state’s largest private high schools, Bishop England High School (BEHS) moved from downtown Charleston to its 40-acres campus across from Daniel Island’s Etiwan Park in 1998. This four-year high school enrolls over 800 students and features excellent athletic facilities and programs.
Located off island in nearby Hanahan, Hanahan High School is currently the public high school that serves Daniel Island.
Philip Simmons Elementary School
Philip Simmons Elementary, established in 2016, is located in Wando just outside of Charleston, South Carolina in Berkeley County. This neighborhood school attracts people from all over the nation creating a rich and diverse population.
