April is National Prevention of Child Abuse Month and this event honors the safety of children everywhere. This free and fun event is sponsored by the Daniel Island Exchange Club and The Daniel Island Community Fund. This event will be held rain or shine. \nAlready a family destination with a playground\, picnic tables\, and an engaging fountain\, the Daniel Island Waterfront Park will be transformed into a fair like atmosphere with jugglers\, stilt-walkers\, a balloon art tent\, a tattoo station\, stilt walkers\, a magician\, a musician with a guitar to play children’s songs and more. There will be free popcorn\, and they will also host a variety of family-friendly games such as corn hole\, a fishing pond\, bowling\, Tug of War\, a 3-legged race\, and of course\, a multitude of prizes to be had! \nThere will also be an information Tent with information on some of the local Children’s Charities advocating for children’s safety and a world where all children grow up safe\, nurtured\, and free from abuse. \nDon’t miss this fun and free event for the whole family. DESCRIPTION:Come and volunteer for the 35th Annual Beach/River Sweep and help keep our beautiful Daniel Island looking great and healthy (and earn Service Hours)! Look for the tables set up on the gravel path across from DI’s Waterfront Park to register in person and check-in. You’ll sweep at low tide: 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM\, to be able to get near the marshes\, but don’t risk picking up big pieces. Safety first! Young ones should stick to sidewalks\, bushes and trails. \n\nAll are welcome. No advanced registration required; just show up.\nWear a hat\, sunscreen\, closed-toe shoes\, long pants and sleeves\, bug spray. Bring water to keep hydrated.\nSC Sea Grants provides garbage bags and some gloves. Bring your own plastic gloves\, if possible\, and a trash picker if you have one.\n“Tally Forms” to keep track of the type of litter you’ll collect are provided. These forms are provided by S. C. Sea Grant Consortium.\nBring a pen or pencil.\nParticipation counts for SERVICE HOURS (bring your volunteer forms or use ours)\nThe event could use a volunteer to take pictures.\nOne research credit can be awarded to one or two students willing to collate and present the data.\n\nQuestions?
