SUMMARY:Waterfest at The Waterfront
DESCRIPTION:This annual community event offers fun for the whole family with an afternoon beside the Wando river! Listen to live music while enjoying oysters\, chili and drinks. Little ones can take part in activities like face painting\, arts and crafts\, and an interactive reptile station led by the SC Aquarium. New this year\, the Daniel Island Ferry will provide two\, 30-minute cruises along the Wando River. Cruises will be depart from the dock at 1:45 and 2:30p. Sign up will take place at the event and will be first come\, first served. \nA portion of proceeds from the entry fee will be donated to Charleston Waterkeeper\, a Charleston-based nonprofit that works to protect and restore the waterways for you and future generations. \nThe Waterfront will also have a raffle table open with prizes from local vendors. Raffle ticket sales will also benefit Charleston Waterkeeper. \nBe sure to reserve tickets in advance as this event typically sells out! \n*Children 2 years of age and younger do not require a ticket for entry

SUMMARY:Beach Sweep/River Sweep
DESCRIPTION:Come and volunteer for the 36th Annual Beach/River Sweep Family Event and help keep our beautiful Daniel Island looking great and healthy. Students earn Service Hours! We’ll sweep at low tide: 12:00 pm to 2:00 PM (PLEASE NOTE NEW TIME TO REFLECT TIDES)\, Rain or Shine\, Saturday\, October 4\, 2025. Look for the small registration table set up on the stage in DI Waterfront Park to register. You will receive an S.C. Sea Grant Tally sheet to keep track of the litter you pick up and a recyclable garbage bag. Team up with a buddy so one can pick up the litter and the other can keep score of the litter found. It’s pure fun (like a scavenger hunt) to clean up the island with your friends and family. Or\, just come out for a walk and enjoy the outdoors! Bring your buddies! \n\nAll are welcome. No advance registration required; just show up.\nChildren must be accompanied by an adult.\nTeens will be paired with others unless they come with a buddy of their own.  Participation counts for SERVICE HOURS (bring your volunteer forms or use ours)\nBring water to keep hydrated.\nWear closed-toe shoes\, long sleeves\, sunscreen\, and bug spray.\nBring a grabber to reach for litter from a safe place. We will supply grabbers if you don’t have any.\nThe marshes contain a lot of litter\, which the high tide brings in and the low tide reveals. Only adults can reach in there\, provided they wear rubber boots or marsh boots and have a buddy.\n\nThis event is sponsored by the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium and the DI Community Fund. Prepare to have fun!

April is National Prevention of Child Abuse Month and this event honors the safety of children everywhere. This free and fun event is sponsored by the Daniel Island Exchange Club and The Daniel Island Community Fund. This event will be held rain or shine. \nAlready a family destination with a playground\, picnic tables\, and an engaging fountain\, the Daniel Island Waterfront Park will be transformed into a fair like atmosphere with jugglers\, stilt-walkers\, a balloon art tent\, a tattoo station\, stilt walkers\, a magician\, a musician with a guitar to play children’s songs and more. There will be free popcorn\, and they will also host a variety of family-friendly games such as corn hole\, a fishing pond\, bowling\, Tug of War\, a 3-legged race\, and of course\, a multitude of prizes to be had! \nThere will also be an information Tent with information on some of the local Children’s Charities advocating for children’s safety and a world where all children grow up safe\, nurtured\, and free from abuse. \nDon’t miss this fun and free event for the whole family.
