SUMMARY:The 2026 Charleston Duck Race
DESCRIPTION:One of the Lowcountry’s most beloved spring traditions\, the 19th Annual Charleston Duck Race\, returns to Daniel Island Waterfront Park on Saturday\, May 30\, 2026\, bringing thousands of families together for a free\, festive day — and a signature moment when 30\,000 bright yellow rubber ducks are dropped into the Wando River for a fast-paced\, crowd-cheering race to the finish. \nHosted by the Charleston Area Rotary Clubs\, the Charleston Duck Race has raised more than $3 million for local charities. This year’s goal is $225\,000 to support 20+ Lowcountry nonprofits. \nCommunity members can participate by adopting a duck for $10. The first duck across the finish line is the winner: $10\,000 for first place\, $5\,000 for second place\, and five $1\,000 prizes. \nAn all-volunteer group of impassioned Rotarians begins planning for the race in February\, dedicating countless hours to securing sponsorships\, promoting duck adoptions in public spaces\, and engineering the duck drop and sizzle surrounding the day. \nThe race highlights a community commitment to giving with the mantra “service above self\,” and supports local charities in sustaining their contributions to health\, education\, childhood development\, and the overall well-being of the Low Country. \nAdopt a duck online at $10 a duck\, or ask how you can get involved by going to: www.CharlestonDuckRace.com \nEvent Details: Family Festival + Duck Drop \nCharleston Duck Race Day Schedule \n\nDaniel Island Waterfront Park\nSaturday\, May 30\, 2026\n10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.\nFree to attend (duck adoption required to win prizes)\n\n  \nThe Duck Race is a family-friendly community festival featuring skill-based games and creative activities for all ages throughout the day. The official Duck Drop is expected around 1:00 p.m.\, depending on tides\, wind\, and weather conditions. \n“The day is such a feel-good way to have a blast\,” Conway added. “You just adopt a duck\, bring your family\, and join the fun — and you’re supporting Charleston charities at the same time.” \nWhere the Money Goes: 20+ Local Nonprofits \nThe Charleston Duck Race is Rotary’s largest annual fundraiser in the region\, with proceeds supporting both local and global initiatives. \nThis year’s beneficiaries will include more than 20 nonprofits\, among them: \n\nFirst Tee\nEast Cooper Meals on Wheels\nFeeding of the Multitudes\nGirls on the Run\nShifa Clinic\nThe Rotary Club of Daniel Island Scholarship Program

SUMMARY:DI Speaker's Series
DESCRIPTION:The Daniel Island Community Speaker’s Series returns on Wednesday evening\, January 21\, from 7:00-8:00 PM in the ballroom at the Daniel Island Club. Their speaker will be Carolyn Murray\, the co-anchor on several segments of “Count on News 2” each day on WCBD. \nMany of us know Carolyn because of her role as co-anchor of the evening news program. Fewer people know that she is also an avid weekend athlete. She has run 8 marathons\, 27 Cooper River Bridge runs\, practices yoga\, is a certified spin instructor\, and a Barre instructor. She tries hard to maintain a healthy body. \nBut in early 2020 – just as COVID arrived on the scene – her life changed. She experienced a health scare that impacted everything about her image of herself —  her role as a wife\, a mother\, a journalist. After surgery\, she spent three months in a hospital. She was alone\, scared\, angry\, and needed to figure out how she was going to go forward. It is that story she will share with us this evening. Her journey from despair to resilience is truly inspiring. Perhaps she can help us all figure out how to proceed when speed bumps occur in our own lives. \nCarolyn is also known as an empathetic storyteller. Throughout her career\, she has interviewed and effectively told the stories of leaders such as Bill Clinton\, Hillary Clinton\, Oprah\, Coretta Scott King\, U.S. Congressman John Lewis\, and baseball legend Hank Aaron. As you will see\, she is equally adept at telling her own story. \nPlease join in on January 21. There will be a cash bar and passed hors d’oeuvres between 6:30-7:00 PM. The program will begin promptly at 7:00 PM and should conclude around 8:00 PM. \nRegister HERE
