DESCRIPTION:Start your spring cleaning by getting rid of all of your unwanted\, important documents safely. Sponsored by the Daniel Island Community Fund (DICF)\, Shred America will be coming to the Blackbaud North parking lot (65 Fairchild Street) to help you safely shred your documents. The event will take place on Saturday\, May 3rd from 9 AM – 12 PM or when the shredding truck is full\, whichever comes first. \n  \nImportant info from Shred America Regarding the May 3rd event: \n\nEach vehicle is limited to 5 boxes of shred materials.\nPlease remove any tape\, wrapping\, and strings from boxes for easy opening.\nPlease remove all non-paper items like metal\, plastic\, and three-ring binders (they recycle their shredded paper\, so it can’t have these items in it). Staples and paperclips do not need to be removed.\nYou are responsible for the disposal of all boxes as they cannot mix cardboard with paper for recycling.\n\n  \n*This is a private event for Daniel Island residents and businesses only. This lady is an icon. She won 12 Olympic swimming medals over the course of four different Olympics – eight of those medals were gold. This is an inspirational message that will warm your heart. You do not want to miss it. \nThe Daniel Island Speaker Series is excited to host another very highly anticipated event on Tuesday\, February 11th\, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in the ballroom at the Daniel Island Club. Their featured guest will be Dr. Jenny Thompson\, the longtime most decorated US female Olympian with 12 medals in swimming\, 8 of them gold! Incredibly\, all of this was before she completely pivoted her career into becoming an anesthesiologist and now practicing at the VA Medical Center right here in Charleston! \nHave you ever wondered what it would be like to be in the Olympics? SUMMARY:DI Speakers Series with N. CHS Mayor
DESCRIPTION:The Daniel Island Community Speaker Series with North Charleston Mayor Reggie Burgess will host another very highly anticipated event Wednesday evening\, November 13th from 6:30-8:00 PM. The featured speaker will be North Charleston Mayor Reggie Burgess. \nNorth Charleston is turbocharged and much of what is happening there will affect all on Daniel Island. \nFor example\, the old Navy Yard is being transformed into a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood that will include a public plaza with outdoor dining\, an event space\, and a new music venue. The Coast Guard is building a new facility on the south end of Navy Base which will become the Center of Operations for the entire East Coast. The old paper mill is being converted into additional terminal space for the port. That will require rebuilding the Don Holt Bridge to allow larger vessels to pass. Widening the Don Holt means that I-526 will need to be widened as well. \nThe mayor has a lot on his plate. But Mayor Burgess has lived in North Charleston his entire life and seems up to the task. Join in and see what he has in mind. \nThis free event will be held Wednesday\, November 13th\, at the Daniel Island Club\, 600 Island Park Drive. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Our Country\, Freedom\, and Nation’s Birthday by making Daniel Island one of America’s “Most Patriotic Towns.” Paint the Town Red\, White\, and Blue\, and join us for Daniel Island’s Annual Independence Day festivities on Wednesday\, July 3rd at Smythe Park with neighbors\, friends\, and family. \nWe like to start with a special thank you to our Independence Day Sponsors! \n\nDaniel Island Real Estate\nMead Land Services\, LLC\nHome Telecom\nDaniel Island Ferry\nRuppert Nurseries\n\n  \nDress up your homes\, businesses\, bikes\, and golf carts with patriotic colors\, and participate in our island tradition of honoring this wonderful holiday. \nPatriotic Parade:\n\n3:15 pm Golf Cart Parade line-up begins at Bishop England High School.\n4:00 pm Sharp – The parade proceeds to Daniel Island Drive and continues to the Daniel Island School parking lot at DI Drive and Purcell Street\n\nThe parade starts at the Bishop England High School parking lot (by sports fields) and finishes at Daniel Island Drive & Purcell Street. Everyone is invited to participate in the parade. Participants need to arrive for the line-up between 3:15 pm – 3:45 pm. The parade will start at 4:00 pm sharp. \nParade Traffic Alert: There will be intermittent street closures on July 3rd for the Daniel Island Annual Patriotic Parade from 3:45–4:45 pm (approximate time). The City of Charleston Police Department will coordinate and execute the street closure process. This is a rolling closure\, meaning as soon as the parade passes\, the police will reopen the streets. Please see the parade route below: Leave from the Bishop England High School Parking Lot and end at the Daniel Island Drive & Purcell Lane intersection. \nParade Route: \n\nStarts at Bishop England parking area by the sports field off Seven Farms Drive (this is across the street from Etiwan Park)\nParade turns right on Seven Farms toward the round about at Daniel Island Drive\nParade turn right on Daniel Island Drive and proceeds down to the intersection at Smythe Park at Purcell Street\nParade turns right at the intersection of DI Drive and Purcell Street into DI School parking lot for parking\n\n \n  \nImmediately following the parade\, there will be three back-to-back lakeside concerts at Smythe Park. DESCRIPTION:You are invited to enjoy live music each Thursday afternoon at Waterfront Park on Daniel Island at the end of River Landing Drive with a spectacular view of the Wando River. Feel free to bring a chair or blanket and your picnic. \nThe Acoustic Guitar Spring/Summer season runs through the end of June on the 27th. The end of Summer/Fall season starts back on Thursday\, August 22nd and will run through the end of October ending on Thursday\, October 24th. \nWe encourage our attendees to use #DIguitarseries and tag @danielislandpoa to share their event experience. \nThe Daniel Island Community Fund sponsors this event.
