DESCRIPTION:Start your spring cleaning by getting rid of all of your unwanted\, important documents safely. Sponsored by the Daniel Island Community Fund (DICF)\, Shred America will be coming to the Blackbaud North parking lot (65 Fairchild Street) to help you safely shred your documents. The event will take place on Saturday\, May 9th\, from 9 AM – 12 PM or when the shredding truck is full\, whichever comes first. \nImportant info from Shred America regarding the May 9th event: \n\nEach vehicle is limited to 5 boxes of shred material.\nPlease remove any tape\, wrapping\, and strings from boxes for easy opening.\nPlease remove all non-paper items like metal\, plastic\, and three-ring binders (they recycle their shredded paper\, so it can’t have these items in it). Staples and paperclips do not need to be removed.\nYou are responsible for the disposal of all boxes\, as they cannot mix cardboard with paper for recycling.\n\n  \n*This is a private event for Daniel Island residents and businesses only. You must have a valid ID with you to participate. \n**Shred America is a veteran-owned and operated shredding service provider.

SUMMARY:DI Speaker's Series
DESCRIPTION:The Daniel Island Community Speaker’s Series returns on Wednesday evening\, January 21\, from 7:00-8:00 PM in the ballroom at the Daniel Island Club. Their speaker will be Carolyn Murray\, the co-anchor on several segments of “Count on News 2” each day on WCBD. \nMany of us know Carolyn because of her role as co-anchor of the evening news program. Fewer people know that she is also an avid weekend athlete. She has run 8 marathons\, 27 Cooper River Bridge runs\, practices yoga\, is a certified spin instructor\, and a Barre instructor. She tries hard to maintain a healthy body. \nBut in early 2020 – just as COVID arrived on the scene – her life changed. She experienced a health scare that impacted everything about her image of herself —  her role as a wife\, a mother\, a journalist. After surgery\, she spent three months in a hospital. She was alone\, scared\, angry\, and needed to figure out how she was going to go forward. It is that story she will share with us this evening. Her journey from despair to resilience is truly inspiring. Perhaps she can help us all figure out how to proceed when speed bumps occur in our own lives. \nCarolyn is also known as an empathetic storyteller. Throughout her career\, she has interviewed and effectively told the stories of leaders such as Bill Clinton\, Hillary Clinton\, Oprah\, Coretta Scott King\, U.S. Congressman John Lewis\, and baseball legend Hank Aaron. As you will see\, she is equally adept at telling her own story. \nPlease join in on January 21. There will be a cash bar and passed hors d’oeuvres between 6:30-7:00 PM. The program will begin promptly at 7:00 PM and should conclude around 8:00 PM. \nRegister HERE

SUMMARY:Daniel Island Speaker's Series with Marc Fetten
DESCRIPTION:The Daniel Island Community Speaker’s Series will resume on Wednesday evening\, September 17\, from 7:00-8:00 PM in the ballroom at the Daniel Island Club. The speaker will be Marc Fetten\, who is the Founder and CEO of GreenGasUSA. \nGreenGas is transforming how industries capture and convert greenhouse gases into renewable energy. \nFarmers work tirelessly to provide us with a reliable and secure food system. But in the process\, huge amounts of animal waste are created and stored in what become toxic holding ponds. Methane gas escapes from these ponds into the air and seeps into the water table\, resulting in a challenge to the environment far more serious than the CO2 emitted from our gas-powered cars and trucks. GreenGas USA takes waste products from food processing facilities and transforms them into natural propane gas\, which is used to create electricity for use by other manufacturing companies. This circular energy technology repurposes waste streams and turns them into renewable energy.  In addition to the dairy\, cattle\, and poultry farming operations\, GreenGasUSA is doing the same thing with waste from landfills\, restaurants\, wastewater\, and even prison farm mature. \nAs a result of all this\, farmers now have a new stream of income; environmentally fragile areas are being cleaned up\, and manufacturers have another source of energy to choose from. While more expensive than traditional fossil fuel\, GreenGas customers are turning to its environmentally friendly source of power because it is the right thing to do. \nMarc is a serial entrepreneur who likes to solve big problems.  Whether you’re passionate about innovation\, curious about clean tech\, or just want to be inspired by our Daniel Island neighbor who is making a difference at a global level\, this is one event you won’t want to miss. \nThis event will be held on Wednesday evening\, September 17\, at the Daniel Island Club. DESCRIPTION:3 PM Update – We’re disappointed to announce that due to the current weather conditions and near future forecast\, the Annual Patriotic Parade scheduled for today\, Thursday\, July 3rd\, has been cancelled. We understand how much this beloved tradition means to the community and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. \nHowever\, the celebration continues!\nThe Annual Independence Day Celebration at Smythe Park is still on as planned. While we remain mindful of the weather and will continue to monitor conditions closely\, the current forecast allows us to move forward with an exciting evening of live music and local food vendors. We will post updates as needed. \nThank you for your understanding and continued support. DESCRIPTION:Start your spring cleaning by getting rid of all of your unwanted\, important documents safely. Sponsored by the Daniel Island Community Fund (DICF)\, Shred America will be coming to the Blackbaud North parking lot (65 Fairchild Street) to help you safely shred your documents. The event will take place on Saturday\, May 3rd from 9 AM – 12 PM or when the shredding truck is full\, whichever comes first. \n  \nImportant info from Shred America Regarding the May 3rd event: \n\nEach vehicle is limited to 5 boxes of shred materials.\nPlease remove any tape\, wrapping\, and strings from boxes for easy opening.\nPlease remove all non-paper items like metal\, plastic\, and three-ring binders (they recycle their shredded paper\, so it can’t have these items in it). Staples and paperclips do not need to be removed.\nYou are responsible for the disposal of all boxes as they cannot mix cardboard with paper for recycling.\n\n  \n*This is a private event for Daniel Island residents and businesses only. You must have a valid ID with you to participate. \n**Shred America is a veteran-owned and operated shredding service provider.

DESCRIPTION:The speaker’s series will be held on Tuesday\, February 11\, 2025\, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Daniel Island Club. The speaker will be Olympic swimmer Jenny Thompson. This lady is an icon. She won 12 Olympic swimming medals over the course of four different Olympics – eight of those medals were gold. This is an inspirational message that will warm your heart. You do not want to miss it. \nThe Daniel Island Speaker Series is excited to host another very highly anticipated event on Tuesday\, February 11th\, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in the ballroom at the Daniel Island Club. Their featured guest will be Dr. Jenny Thompson\, the longtime most decorated US female Olympian with 12 medals in swimming\, 8 of them gold! Incredibly\, all of this was before she completely pivoted her career into becoming an anesthesiologist and now practicing at the VA Medical Center right here in Charleston! \nHave you ever wondered what it would be like to be in the Olympics? What is it like to be in the quest and glory of setting world records? Or to completely reinvent yourself and your career? Do you have children with big aspirations? Have them come too and be truly inspired by such a local American icon. SUMMARY:DI Speakers Series with N. CHS Mayor
DESCRIPTION:The Daniel Island Community Speaker Series with North Charleston Mayor Reggie Burgess will host another very highly anticipated event Wednesday evening\, November 13th from 6:30-8:00 PM. The featured speaker will be North Charleston Mayor Reggie Burgess. \nNorth Charleston is turbocharged and much of what is happening there will affect all on Daniel Island. \nFor example\, the old Navy Yard is being transformed into a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood that will include a public plaza with outdoor dining\, an event space\, and a new music venue. The Coast Guard is building a new facility on the south end of Navy Base which will become the Center of Operations for the entire East Coast. The old paper mill is being converted into additional terminal space for the port. That will require rebuilding the Don Holt Bridge to allow larger vessels to pass. Widening the Don Holt means that I-526 will need to be widened as well. \nThe mayor has a lot on his plate. But Mayor Burgess has lived in North Charleston his entire life and seems up to the task. Join in and see what he has in mind. \nThis free event will be held Wednesday\, November 13th\, at the Daniel Island Club\, 600 Island Park Drive.
