The Daniel Island Community Speaker’s Series will continue with a Zoom webinar on Wednesday evening, January 27th from 7PM to 8PM. The meetings will return to the Daniel Island Club once it is safe to do so.
The speaker that evening will be Steve Potts. Steve is the founder and CEO of Scout Boats. He and his family live right here on Daniel Island and so many of you may know him already.
Steve’s love affair with boats goes back to his high school days in the mid-1960’s. He worked for a couple of boat builders in his early years but always knew he wanted to do his own thing.
He and his wife Dianne founded Scout Boats in 1988 with $50,000 and a dream. But Hurricane Hugo came along in September 1989 and nearly wiped them out. Steve and Dianne, with their at-the-time 12-year old son and 9-year old daughter, basically rebuilt the factory brick by brick. They survived and today Scout Boats is a thriving builder of high-end, finely finished sportfishing boats that range in size from 17-53 feet that are recognized for quality around the world.
Steve also has his philanthropic side. As Daniel Island Rotarians know, Steve and his team at Scout Boats have been generous supporters of Rotary’s Annual Charity Duck Race. Without his support, the race may never have happened.
The program will begin promptly at 7PM and will conclude around 8PM.
