Important Garbage, Yard Debris and Other Household Items Collections Info. 3.23.2020

March 23, 2020

As we have previously sent out, beginning today (Monday, March 23rd), the only collection that the City of Charleston via Republic Services will be collecting is the garbage that you place inside your City of Charleston green trash containers.

Yard debris and other bulk or household/miscellaneous trash items, WILL NOT BE COLLECTED city wide in order to make additional crews available to assist with garbage collection until further notified.

This applies to the entire City of Charleston, including areas serviced by contractors (Daniel Island, Cainhoy, Outer West Ashley, and Johns Island). If you have a landscape maintenance company that performs yard work for you, please be sure that these contractors DO NOT leave yard debris at the curb. They will need to take debris to a convenience center.

The City is asking that if you have already placed any yard debris or household/bulk/miscellaneous items at the curb, please pull those items back into your property or garage, screened from view. Please do not place any items at the curb for collection as they will not be picked up at this time. The POA will notify property owners when the city resumes normal trash (yard debris) pick up.

The City has indicated that they may also experience garbage collection delays and they ask for your patience. If garbage collection (the garbage inside your City of Charleston green garbage cans), is not able to be completed today, Monday March 23rd, the City has asked that you PLEASE LEAVE YOUR GREEN BINS AT THE CURBSIDE so that they can be collected on Tuesday, March 24th. The City has indicated that they will notify property owners/the POA to the best of their ability if there are such delays.

There are many Daniel Island property owners that have offered to help their neighbors who may be sick, older or not able to pull yard debris or bulk items back onto their property, and we encourage all neighbors to help neighbors in this critical time of need.

The POA has also confirmed the following information from both Berkeley County and Charleston County, regarding their Convenience Centers.
