COVID-19 Virus Impact on the DI Swim Team
As we are adjusting to the reality of school and businesses closing due to the COVID-19 virus, some of you may be wondering what will be the effect on summer swim this year. The short answer is that we do not know what is going to happen. We will continue to prepare for the season until we have a definitive answer.
Registration will occur on the dates listed on the Team Schedule: April 1 for returning swimmers and April 8 for open registration. Our current plan is to conduct the registration in two phases.
Phase 1 will consist of signing up swimmers and collecting contact information. No fees will be charged at this time. Age group size limits will be in place as in the past.
Phase 2 will take place when we know that the swim season is going to happen. At that time an email will go out to all families that registered in phase one with a link to complete the registration process and pay fees for the swimmers.
We believe that this process allows us to prepare for the season to happen while not complicating a potential shortened or cancelled season with full or partial refunds, which would have to be in the form of checks with our current system.
For the 2020 season, registration for the swim team will take place on the Flying Fish website, not via the POA website.

Returning Swimmers will receive an email from Swimtopia for registration instructions and a link before Wednesday, April 1st.
New Swimmers registration will begin at 9 AM on Wednesday, April 8th. Register via the Flying Fish Swim Team website HERE. Please note, registration link will not be live until 9 AM on Wednesday, April 8th!
*New 5/6 and 7/8 aged swimmers will need to be swim tested before being officially accepted onto the team. Swimmers must be at least 5 years of age by June 1st – no exceptions. It is recommended that new swimmers register online before trying out to ensure you have a spot on the team.
New Swimmer Evaluations will take place at the Pierce Park Pool:
- Wednesday, April 22 from 3:30-4 PM
- Thursday, April 23 from 3:30-4 PM
- Kickoff Breakfast on Saturday, April 25th from 8-10:30 AM

Registration fees:
- Daniel Island Community Association (DICA): $125 per swimmer
- Daniel Island Park Association/Daniel Island Town Association (DIPA/DITA): $150 per swimmer
- Don’t know your association? DICA consists of all property owners below 526. DIPA consists of property owners above 526. DITA consists of Daniel Island apartments and condos. If you are still unsure of which association you fall under, please call the POA office at (843) 971-9200.
Practice will begin for ages 7 and up on April 29th. The final practice schedule is posted on the Flying Fish website HERE. We are looking forward to another fantastic summer!
CANCELLATION POLICY: If a swimmer chooses not to be on the team before practice starts, there is a $50 cancellation fee for all cancelled registrations. If a swimmer chooses not to be on the swim team at any point during the season after the practice starts, they will not be refunded for their registration. If new swimmer tries out for the team but does not make it as a result of their swimming skills, they will be refunded their full registration fee.
